Workshop on Writing Effective Conference Paper at Techno NJR : Day 1


The two day workshop on, “Writing Effective Conference Papers” commenced today at Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur, as a part of the series of ISTE-IITB workshops, sponsored by MHRD, Govt. of India, under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT). It is a free of charge workshop which is funded by MHRD and conducted by IIT Bombay.

This first day of the workshop was very beneficial to faculty members and students in academic institutions who plan to write research papers for conferences. The guidelines and skills discussed in the workshop will help participants improve the chances of getting their conference paper accepted.

Techno India NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur is the only center in whole Rajasthan.


The day 1 of the workshop included various sessions which guided the participants to nourish their skills of writing papers.
An introduction to general technical writing and Contours of a technical conference paper were discussed in the first session.

Session 2 included organizing and detailed planning of a technical conference paper. In this session, the structure and organization of a conference paper were discussed. Various sections that referees look for, in a conference paper, and the details that must be present in each section were also examined.

Session 3 was focused on writing style, composition, and grammar. A well written paper is more likely to get a good review than a poorly written one, even if it contains the same ideas.

In session 4, participants applied the knowledge and skills discussed in all above sessions (1-3), to work on individual and group-based writing exercises. Samples of written work were provided, which were taken from submissions from participants. Peer review was be part of this session.

The Day 2 of the workshop will be teaching, ‘Don’t plagiarize, instead paraphrase!’ This session will focus on what is plagiarism, and how to avoid it even if it is unintentionally. Participants will work on exercises on how to present previous work by paraphrasing.

The 6th session will be the second part on, organizing and detailed planning of a technical conference paper.
A conference paper is somewhat different from a research journal paper. What features must be present specifically in a conference paper that is likely to get it a good review? We will discuss these and further advanced details of planning a conference paper.

Session 7 will be the second part of the writing style in which, advanced elements of writing style will be discussed.

TINJR always promotes enhancement of Knowledge of faculty members and this is third type of workshop that we are organizing in this series. Workshop will target to enhance the quality of papers being produced at conferences.”
